Antiemetic

Selective antagonist of the serotonin receptor subtype

Pharmacology and Actions

  1. Very effective antiemetic
  2. Action is not known, probably due to the selective antagonist receptors on neurons located in either the peripheral or central nervous systems or both

Indications

  1. Nausea and vomiting

Contraindications

  1. Known sensitivity to the drug.

Precautions

  1. Not effective in preventing motion-induced nausea and vomiting

Administration

  1. 4 mg IV or IN

Side Effects and Special Notes

  1. Headache
  2. Constipation
  3. Dizziness
  4. Musculoskeletal pain
  5. Drowsiness
  6. Fatigue
  7. Urinary retention
  8. Chest pain (rarely)
