Selective antagonist of the serotonin receptor subtype
Pharmacology and Actions
- Very effective antiemetic
- Action is not known, probably due to the selective antagonist receptors on neurons located in either the peripheral or central nervous systems or both
Indications
- Nausea and vomiting
Contraindications
- Known sensitivity to the drug.
Precautions
- Not effective in preventing motion-induced nausea and vomiting
Administration
- 4 mg IV or IN

- Headache
- Constipation
- Dizziness
- Musculoskeletal pain
- Drowsiness
- Fatigue
- Urinary retention
- Chest pain (rarely)
